Job Details:

  • Pay: £45,000 - £50,000 (plus £5,750 car allowance)
  • Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, Days, Full Time (45 hours)
  • Duration: Permanent
  • Benefits: 8% employer pension contribution, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
Job Role: As Environmental Manager, you will lead the environmental strategy, compliance management, and sustainability performance for a major infrastructure package involving complex construction, remediation, and operational support activities.

You will ensure that all site activities — including earthworks, temporary works, material handling, and environmental protection measures — are delivered in accordance with current legislation, industry best practice, and internal management systems. This includes ensuring strong environmental controls, improving sustainable working methods, driving carbon reduction initiatives, and safeguarding sensitive environmental receptors.

The Environmental Manager will collaborate closely with project leadership, engineering teams, subcontractors, and regulatory partners to implement environmental management plans, conduct inspections and audits, and maintain compliance with ISO 14001. You will lead pollution prevention measures, oversee environmental monitoring, and embed a strong environmental culture across the project.

Essential Skills, Experience, or Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable experience as an Environmental Manager on major civil engineering, infrastructure, or regulated industrial projects
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, including the Environmental Protection Act and Environmental Permitting Regulations
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and environmental assurance processes
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Ecology, or a related discipline
  • Professional membership (e.g. IEMA Practitioner or above)

Advantageous Skills, Experience, or Qualifications

  • Experience supporting remediation, decommissioning, or contaminated land projects
  • Knowledge of biodiversity net gain, carbon reduction strategies, and sustainability reporting
  • Experience managing engagement with environmental regulators and stakeholders
  • Training qualifications such as Environmental Awareness Trainer, Spill Response, or Waste Management
  • Experience with environmental monitoring regimes, GIS mapping, or environmental data dashboards

Job Role: As Waste Manager, you will take ownership of waste management across a major, highly regulated infrastructure programme supporting complex operations, remediation and decommissioning activities. You will develop and implement the site waste strategy, ensure legal and client compliance, and drive best practice in waste minimisation, segregation, traceability and disposal.

This Waste Manager role involves working closely with construction delivery teams, HSEQ, planners, subcontractors, and client stakeholders to ensure all waste streams (including controlled, hazardous and contaminated materials) are correctly classified, stored, transported and processed through approved routes. You will maintain accurate records, manage waste contractors and audits, support incident investigations, and ensure documentation aligns with project and regulatory requirements.

Essential Skills, Experience, or Qualifications:

  • Strong working knowledge of UK waste legislation and compliance (Duty of Care, waste classification, consignment notes, EWC coding, hazardous waste regulations)
  • Demonstrable experience as a Waste Manager (or similar) on major civil engineering/infrastructure projects
  • Proven experience developing site waste management plans, waste strategies, and implementing robust segregation/housekeeping standards
  • Confidence managing waste contractors, auditing supply chain performance, and ensuring compliant haulage and disposal routes
  • Security clearance (SC) or the ability to obtain SC

Advantageous Skills, Experience, or Qualifications

  • Experience working on projects involving contaminated land/materials and controlled waste streams in high-security settings
  • WAMITAB qualification (or working towards) or relevant environmental / waste management certification
  • Experience conducting waste investigations (non-conformances, escapes, misclassification) and implementing corrective actions
