Job Details:

  • Pay: Circa £112,000 (Negotiable depending on skillset and experience)
  • Hours of Work: Monday - Friday, Days, Full Time (45 hours)
  • Duration: Permanent
  • Benefits: Car allowance £6,900, 8% employer pension contribution, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
Job Role: As Head of Projects, you will take senior leadership responsibility for overseeing the successful delivery of a portfolio of major civil engineering and infrastructure projects. You will ensure all projects are executed safely, efficiently and in full accordance with programme, quality, cost, and regulatory requirements.

You will lead Project Managers, engineering and delivery teams, providing strategic direction, operational oversight, and performance management across multiple workstreams. Your role will include setting project governance structures, ensuring strong planning and commercial control, and driving continuous improvement across the project portfolio.

The Head of Projects position requires a senior leader with the capability to influence at executive level, build strong relationships with key stakeholders, and support the long-term development of project teams. You will ensure robust reporting, risk management, resourcing, contract management, and compliance with all organisational and statutory standards.

This role suits a highly experienced project delivery professional with a proven track record of leading large-scale civil engineering or infrastructure programmes, ideally within complex or regulated environments.

Essential Skills, Experience, or Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Head of Projects, Programme Manager, or similar leadership role overseeing large-scale civil engineering projects
  • Strong understanding of project governance, construction methodology, engineering interfaces, and operational delivery
  • Excellent command of health & safety leadership and a strong safety-first mindset
  • Experience managing project controls including planning, cost management, progress reporting and risk management
  • Ability to operate strategically while maintaining oversight of day-to-day delivery

Advantageous Skills, Experience, or Qualifications

  • Chartered status (MICE, MAPM, RICS, MCIOB, or equivalent)
  • Degree (BEng/BSc/MEng) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar
  • Experience working within highly regulated or security-controlled project environments
  • Advanced knowledge of programme management methodologies
